Trims and Pricing

The 2023 Nissan Armada and the 2023 Toyota Sequoia both come in five different trim levels. However, the starting price of the Armada is less expensive than the starting MSRP of a similarly equipped Toyota Sequoia. For example, the entry-level Sequoia SR5 has an MSRP of $58,300, while the Armada's S trim only has a starting MSRP of $50,700. This is one of the primary reasons why families love the Armada. You get more standard features and advanced technologies at a lower starting price than the 2023 Sequoia.

Performance

The all-new Nissan Armada is powered by a direct-injection 5.6-liter Endurance V-8 engine with variable valve event and lift. This engine generates a whopping 400 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque. This impressive torque and robust power make off-roading and hauling a breeze.

The engine is paired with an advanced seven-speed automatic transmission that allows you to dial in your performance with enhanced control in the Tow-Haul Mode. If you want smoother shifting, you can choose the Manual Shift Mode instead.

The 2023 Toyota Sequoia comes with a 3.4-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine that works alongside an electric motor. The engine and electric motor produce 583 lb-ft of combined torque and 437 combined hp. They are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive — a four-wheel drivetrain is available as an option.

Interior Comfort

The new Nissan Armada offers around 42 inches of legroom for driver and front passenger. Passengers in the middle row have up to 41 inches of legroom, while passengers in the third row can stretch their legs up to 28 inches. The new Toyota Sequoia, meanwhile, only offers around 41 inches of legroom in the first row and around 39 inches of legroom in the second row. Depending on the configuration, passengers in the vehicle's third row get between 28 inches and 33 inches of legroom.

When it comes to cargo, the new Sequoia can't haul over 86.9 cubic feet of cargo volume. The new Armada, however, offers a maximum cargo capacity of  92 cubic feet. When you explore the ergonomics of this full-size Nissan SUV, you will notice the standard driver's seat with 10-way, power-adjustable controls. This impressive vehicle also comes with a standard front passenger's seat with eight-way, power-controlled motion.

Mid-level Armada models feature multi-setting heating for the front seats, while the higher-tier Platinum edition features first-row seating with cooling. Similarly, the high-level Toyota Sequoia Limited features climate-controlled seats in the front row. Most of the Sequoia trims come with an eight-way driver's seat.

Safety Features

Nissan enhances the 2023 Armada with its ProPILOT Assist system, which includes various advanced safety technologies that quickly react to the surroundings in real time. These technologies include:

  • Automatic emergency braking: If this system detects that there's a risk of colliding with a pedestrian or a vehicle in front of you, it will automatically alert you through audio and visual alerts and apply light automatic braking. This is to prompt you to take action to prevent a collision.
  • Intelligent cruise control: This measures the distance from the vehicle ahead of you and controls deceleration and acceleration to automatically maintain a suitable following distance.
  • Intelligent blind-spot intervention system: This alerts you of other cars in adjacent lanes when changing lanes. It also helps you to return the vehicle to the center of the traveling lane.

In comparison, the 2023 Toyota Sequoia, comes with Toyota's Safety Sense 2.0 system, which offers similar safety features but may not be as comprehensive as Nissan's ProPILOT Assist system.

Is the Nissan Armada or Toyota Sequoia the better SUV?

If you're looking for a full-size SUV, the 2023 Nissan Armada is a great choice. It offers not only impressive performance, interior comfort, and safety features but also a towing capacity of 8,500 lbs. The new Armada also features standard all-wheel drive, whilst the 2023 Sequoia only offers rear-wheel drive as standard.

Another potential advantage of the new Nissan Armada is its updated technology features. It comes with a larger infotainment screen, a new digital gauge cluster, and wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay. These updates can make the Nissan Armada's interior more modern and user friendly than the Sequoia's.

Which One Is the Faster Car?

The Armada's 5.6-liter V-8 engine can sprint from zero to 60 mph in just 6.7 seconds. It delivers nearly 400 hp for a maximum speed of 130 mph. The new Sequoia brings you from zero to 60 mph in just 5.6 seconds. While the 2023 Sequoia accelerates faster than the Armada, the Sequoia only has a top speed of around 107 mph.
