The Nissan Altima is an agile, mid-size vehicle with sensational style and plenty of power. It is certainly one to consider if you're in the market for a fuel-efficient sedan. The real question is, which model? The while those in the market for a 2022 Nissan Altima might find excellent deals, the 2023 Altima can offer the latest automobile innovations. To help you decide which version of the Altima might be the right fit for you, we here at Apple Nissan have compared the key distinctions you can expect.

Trim levels

The 2022 Nissan Altima comes in your choice of trim levels S, SV, SR, SL, and Platinum. You can also explore trim variations like the SR Midnight Edition and the SR VC-Turbo. Here is a little more information about each:

  • The S trim comes with 16-inch steel wheels and wheel covers, intelligent forward collision warning, automatic high-beam headlights, a cloth interior, and a 5.0-inch information screen.
  • The SV includes LED headlights with LED daytime running lights and a Nissan Safety Shield 360.
  • Those interested in precision control might consider the SR trim, which includes paddle shifters with a manual shift mode and sport-tuned suspension.
  • Crank your style with the SR Midnight Edition trim, featuring LED fog lights, a power sliding glass moon roof, and specialized black accents with badging.
  • The SL includes an automatic brake hold and a nine-speaker audio system.
  • The SR VC-Turbo features a high-power engine and active noise cancelation.
  • The Altima Platinum offers interior accent lighting and an intelligent Around View monitor.

In the 2023 model, you'll find the S, SR, SV, and SL trims back again, with the SL as the top trim option. Buyers can choose between a front-wheel drive (FWD) or an intelligent all-wheel drive (AWD) version of each.

Exterior

The 2022 Altima wheel options start with 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels on the S, SV, and SL trims, then advance to 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels on the SR, SR Midnight, and Platinum trims. Exterior paint options include Deep Blue Pearl, Super Black, Gun Metallic gray, Brilliant Silver Metallic, Glacier White, Scarlet Ember Tintcoat, Storm Blue Metallic, Pearl White TriCoat, and Sunset Drift ChromaFlair.

Nissan has updated the 2023 models with new wheels, starting at 16 inches for the S trim. You can also find 17-inch machine-finished aluminum-alloy wheels on the 2023 SV and 19-inch models on the SR and SL trim. With the 2023 Altima, you can access two new exterior color options, Gray Sky Pearl and Garnett Pearl Metallic. Also new on the exterior is a fresh frontal design that includes LED headlights and the Nissan logo.

Interior

The interior of the 2022 Altima varies depending on your trim level choice. Five interior cloth and leather material options are available in Gray or Charcol black leather. All of the trims include high-contrast colors and trim. You'll also find a steering wheel with a flat bottom and faux carbon fiber. Both of these elements add a stylish touch to the vehicle. You can also opt for additional interior style touches like wide-range floor mats, interior accent lighting, illuminated kick plates, and a remote-controlled rearview mirror.

The SL and SR trims of the 2023 Altima step up the infotainment game with a 12.3-inch touchscreen monitor, also available for the SV model. You can find other high-quality interior touches like steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters, leather-appointed seating, automatic temperature control, and elegant matte-chrome tone accents. The inside of this vehicle also features a 60/40-slit rear seat to accommodate all your cargo needs with up to 15.9 cubic ft of cargo space.

Power and Performance

The 2022 model comes with 188-hp and a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with front-wheel drive in nearly every trim option. Buyers can also update to a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 248 hp. Either option gives drivers of the 2022 Altima plenty of power and control. If you're looking for even more of a rush, you can try out the SR trim for sport-tuned suspension, making even the twistiest of back roads feel like a walk in the park.

There is no change to the engine specs for the 2023 Altima. However, the available intelligent all-wheel drive systems can offer drivers a system that helps assess road conditions and adjusts driving style to ensure safety and efficiency, helping you tackle roads easily.

Safety

Available in the 2022 model and standard in 2023 is the Safety Shield 360, a safety assistance technology system that incorporates radar technology, sonar tech, and cameras to bring the safety standards for drivers and passengers to a new level. The system includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, high beam assist, lane departure warning, blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic rear braking.

Other safety features that you'll find in the 2022 and 2023 Altima are intelligent forward collision warning and intelligent lane intervention, which can help drivers steer clear of unexpected road obstructions or pedestrians. You'll also find ProPILOT Assist, which can help drivers stay in the center of their lanes and improve other minor driving habits, and an intelligent around-view monitor, which can help drivers discover every detail of their surroundings by reviewing feedback from multiple cameras, including a bird's-eye view camera.

We hope this comparison has helped answer any lingering questions about the difference between the 2022 and 2023 Nissan Altima models.
